The Peace Dividend Trust office was abuzz yesterday as it received a visit from perhaps its most prestigious supporter, President Ramos-Horta.
The President was greeted by Country Director Claire Parois, who proceeded to show him around the office and introduce the PDT staff members that are based in Dili. The President has taken a keen interest in PDM-TL activities, so PDT was delighted to be able to give him a first hand experience of what happens in the office day to day to keep the program up and running.
The President then proceeded to discuss issues about the Timor-Leste economy and the role that PDT plays through its PDM-TL project. Topics of interest included the development of local Timorese businesses, such as the cattle trade in rural areas and the role of international trade.
The visit was a positive indication of the Timor-Leste government’s interest in working with and supporting projects that continue to help rebuild this country.
